Nadine rocks!

In "Soul Oath", book two of the Everlast trilogy, Nadine kicks some serious butt.

This book takes place three months after the first book ended, Nadine is back in New York attending school and working at the hospital again. It doesn't take long before the chaos of the city erupts around Nadine and she is thrown into fighting off demons again. This time she has help in the form of Keisha and they along with Riasa are able to escape NY and head back to their hometowns.
This story is more action packed then the first book and has so many twist and turns it kept me on the edge of my seat. I can't tell you how things evolve between Micah, Victor and Nadine without giving some major things away but I can tell you I was not disappointed at all, in fact I purchased book 2.5 (Micha's POV) before I finished 50% of this book...it's that good!!!! I can't wait for book three to be released!!!

The story just gets better and better

Thankfully I got this only a few days after reading Destiny Gift & I started it straight away. Earlier I said that Destiny Gift had started a little slow, I also said I felt there were some slightly confusing parts to the story line. DON’T fear in this one.

The story picks up 3 months after Nadine last saw Micah, Ceris and Victor. She is back in New York, back to her job and school yet the action picks up right from the get go. Holy demonic bats, they were raining from the sky. The school is attacked, Nadine & Raisa find themselves on the run to try and get out of the city.

They are coupled with a cop and Keisha, a girl who looks after an ancient weapons exhibit. The fight to get out of the city is intense and fraught with danger, yet somehow Keisha turns into a ninja badass, kung fu kicking chick.

Micah appears and does all he can to get them out of there. Omni is on their trail.

Once free of the city Raisa, Keisha and Nadine go their separate ways and Nadine goes home to her family. Hurt and confused by the actions of Ceris, Victor and Micah she knows she is on borrowed time. One small contact from Victor and all hell breaks loose (literally) and Holy Moly gods of hell she is chased, hunted and all alone.

The next few chapters were hard to read (no spoilers!) suffice to say what happens to Nadine is beyond what any human should have to tolerate. What I loved about this book, and I do believe Juliana wrote with much deeper emotion was what Nadine endured brought out the roller coaster range of feelings you would have if you witnessed the horror Nadine had.

Her pain and suffering was palpable and so believable and when she finally got Micah to agree to the Soul Oath you just knew Nadine was on a one way path to hell.

On a lighter note, though I thoroughly enjoyed to shameless love triangle in the first book, I’m glad it didn’t go on through the 2nd. Micah, is delicious, divine, sexy and oh so confusing and his interaction and flirtatious manner with Nadine was like slowly devouring chocolate, sinfully sweet.

As with the first there were demons and bats and gods, Oh my! Double crossings, evil plots twists and Death Lords. I couldn’t count the number of times I felt I was on the top of a large roller coaster anticipating the drop, but when I did the whole wonderful story took my breath away.

Again, as with the first there was no cliff hanger ending. I’m fan girling Juliana for that BUT you know there is more to come. I hope Micah and Nadine can work out their ‘differences’ and get it on, but there is a small matter of a soul oath to get past. (What he did for her birthday at the Lake of life had me swooning, and had him added to my book boyfriend list) I’M LOVING THIS SERIES.

Can’t wait to get my hands on the next installment Cup of Life (0.5) which is a novella told from Micah’s POV…..it’s out in January and it will keep me going until Everlast #3 comes out :)

In the fall of 1990, I taught Math 581 at New Mexico State University for the first time. This course on field theory is the first semester of the year-long graduate algebra course here at NMSU. In the back of my mind, I thought it would be nice someday to write a book on field theory, one of my favorite mathematical subjects, and I wrote a crude form of lecture notes that semester. Those notes sat undisturbed for three years until late in 1993 when I finally made the decision to turn the notes into a book. The notes were greatly expanded and rewritten, and they were in a form sufficient to be used as the text for Math 581 when I taught it again in the fall of 1994. Part of my desire to write a textbook was due to the nonstandard format of our graduate algebra sequence. The first semester of our sequence is field theory. Our graduate students generally pick up group and ring theory in a senior-level course prior to taking field theory. Since we start with field theory, we would have to jump into the middle of most graduate algebra textbooks. This can make reading the text difficult by not knowing what the author did before the field theory chapters. Therefore, a book devoted to field theory is desirable for us as a text. While there are a number of field theory books around, most of these were less complete than I wanted.

An excellent book for begginers

This book provides a lot of examples to demonstrate the theorems in the book. So you can understand the theorems without much difficulty. Besides, the author gave many details of the proofs in this book. Although it may hurt the concisity of the book, for the begginers, it is very useful.

A good book

This is a nice book that introduce the reader in a nicely way to Galois and Field theory. This book not only concentrate in the classic topics but also covers so much about areas not covered in other books. For example the topics of normality and separibility and pure separability are very well covered and the concepts of infinite extensions; among many others. This books also contains a nice feature and is tons of examples and exercises. Definitely a very good book. I took the course of Galois Theory with this text and I learned a lot.

Good content, disastrous index.

Since other reviewers have not mentioned about the index of the book, I would like to add this: do not use this book if you are among the people who make an extensive use of index. The indes of this book is in the state of frustrating chaos, being disastrously flawed hence completely unusable. I suspect the proofreader was sleeping when reading the draft. As the content covers many topics in a leisurely, detailed and easy-to-read fashion, I really regret that the quality of the index terribly mars the real value of this book.

Are you Kidding?

All of the tunes in this "beginner" book are written in the keys of C, G, D, A and even E! Okay for a second or third year player. Somebody needs to tell the publisher that beginning trumpets players play in flats!

Brilliant Collection of New Translations of the Official and Some Unofficial Gospels

The Jesus Seminar's excellent work on the life of Jesus the Christ has been published before in the far larger and more analytical work, "The Five Gospels". But it also does its more academic forerunner one better by including not only the in-vogue Gospel of Thomas, and the sayings Gospel, "Q", but also a number of other non-canonical (i.e., unsanctioned) books which were contemporaneous with the books that WERE accepted into the official final canon.

Highly readable, these completely new translations avoid the ecclesiastical influence that has rendered other translations less useful. These are truly contemporary translations of some of the most sacred literature in the world.

If you are a serious Bible student who's not bound by millennia-old decisions about what should be considered holy and what isn't, you will find many, many deepening insights into the depth and meaning of the life of Jesus the Christ. If you have a more literalist, fundamentalist view of the Bible, perhaps your time and money would best be invested elsewhere.

For me, this is brilliant. Highly recommended.

Amazing

This is an incredible find for anyone interested in the early church and early ideas that fed into the development of christianity and gnostic traditions. The translation is excellent - the book is worth it for this alone - it is an extremely readable and accurate translation of all the the gospels. In addition, the authors' have done an excellent job of contextualizing the different gospels both historically and in relation to each other. This is just an amazing volume that I cherish as someone who is interested in the early Christian movement. I give this volume a very strong endorsement.

Best Guide for Exploring the Bosphorus

This book is a great resource for anyone going to Istanbul. A must for anyone living in this spectacular city.

Pat Yale and Safret Emre Tonguc give you what you need if you have only a few hours, and enough for a few weeks of exploring the Bosphorus.

Beautiful photographs, and they managed to get into of few of the famous yali (mansions on the Bosphorus) that are closed to the public.

Great capsule descriptions of the sites.

I only gave it 4 stars, but its a first edition and I know they'll improve it.

Some shortcomings with this edition:

* A lot of words are seemingly randomnly put in bold, you expect to see them in a map or in an index, but they are not explained anywhere else in the text.
* The guide sometimes assumes you are familiar with Istanbul neighborhood names, and where they are in relation to the Bosphorus. A real challenge for visitors.
* Sometimes not clear whether or not the site described is open to the public, or private
* IMPORTANT -- include a pull-out map with street names and the locations of at least the key sites. This would be a fair amount of work, but it would make the book twice as useful.
* Including the segments of the Bosphorus that make for good walking routes.
* The best way to cycle the Bosphorus (here's the spoiler -- start in Karakoy and go north to Sariyer. Take the ferry to Anadolu Kavagi, and cycle down to Uskudar (or Kadikody) and take the ferry back.
* A more complete overview of the ferry system would be helpful -- they cover the IDO company adequately, but there are a lot more options using the other companies that criss-cross the Bosphorus.

This is a good source book for magical traditions and extra spells

This is a good source book for magical traditions and extra spells. Otherwise, it's pretty much a waste of paper. A lot of their descriptions of magic and spirits can be summed up as "I don't know what they're like" - basically hinting that they vary and change, so you should just decide for yourself.

TL; DR- Even with my favorite spell, a few problems hurt the book. 87%

Basics- There is a lot more magic than what you see on the trids, chummer. Street Grimoire is a large hardcover book covering magic in the Shadowrun 5e world. The book spends a long time discussing how magic works (or how it might work), the world and magic, different types of magic, and other canon pieces of Shadowrun before diving into adding hard, crunchy bits to the setting. It covers all types of magic from mages to adepts and everybody in between like spirits with each type of magic (spell casting, enchanting, summoning, et al) getting their own chapter.

Mechanics or Crunch- Overall, I like what's in Street Grimoire. The book adds a ton of spells even adding my favorite spell euphoria (which used to be called Orgasm) as well as adding a large variety of new spirit options, adept powers, and magic traditions. What makes me less than amazed is the lack of qualities and the types of spells. There are a few, but most can't be PC qualities. Also, as a magic Decker, I was kind of less amazed by the new adept powers. Some are awesome, but I felt the techno-mages kind of were left in the cold. The spells in the book are good, but nothing sticks out besides my special favorite to really make me take any at character generation. They are a little to specific and that kind of keeps me away when I only get 10 spells to start. What's in the book is good, but I'd like a bit more. 4.25/5

Theme or Fluff- Here is where the Shadowrun books always shine. The book is written as a conversation on the Shadowrunner BBS as a character writes a long post, and all the other Shadowrunners tare into the poster with comments. It's well done and entertaining. I just read a 200+ page anthropology book about a world that doesn't exist, but I wasn't bored and was pretty enthralled. Good job! 5/5

Execution-While the theme is really helped by the addition of the Shadowrunner BBS conversation, some of the important parts of the book get mixed into the conversation. Sometimes concessions for organization are made to keep the BBS format going. Those concessions can hurt the understanding of the reader. One example is the chapter on magic groups as several examples discussed, but after all the groups are mentioned the book adds a page about group organization. That would be excellent information, but the section wasn't front loaded in a way I could follow, so I was reading about something else, then a small, in-text section describes how the groups are organized. So, I was a bit lost. That happed a few other places as well. You can find your way, but it does distract from the flow of the book. 3.75/5

Summary- Overall, this is a good book. I'm a relatively new convert to Shadowrun, so the world story side of the book is really helpful. However, this book isn't the home run I would have hoped for. Mechanically, I want more. As a starting wizard, the book doesn't have a ton of spells you'll want to pick up and use. The spells here are great, but you'll more than likely stick to the spells out of the base book. And that's kind of a running theme for the mechanics throughout this book. Good stuff, but nothing that will make you build a starter character based on. UNLESS YOU COULD SHANTE THE WORLD SEXIEST TROLL! Just because the book brings back my favorite fourth edition spells as euphoria, it gets a higher grade simply for that. But, this book also suffers from a serious problem with organization. Sure the book "works" as I can read it fine, but as a reader, I felt lost a few times. That hurts the overall presentation. This is a good book, but it needs some work to really make this the slam dunk it could be. 87%

About the Author
Carol Evans is a master watercolourist with her work achieving international acclaim as part of many group exhibitions and private collections worldwide. Her art has been published in two previous books of paintings: West Coast: Homeland of Mist, and Releasing the Light. She and her husband live on Salt Spring Island, British
Columbia.

I find book forewords confusing, don't you? I get them mixed up with prefaces. Difference is, a preface is written by the author of the book; a foreword is written by a friend or admirer of the author--ideally, somebody revered and influential, like say, Nelson Mandela or the Dalai Lama.

Then there's the spelling. I keep thinking it should be spelled "forward" but it's not--it's "foreword."

Some books go forward without a foreword and maybe this one should have too, because Nelson Mandela or the Dalai Lama I ain't. I'm a newspaper scribbler and a retired radio show host. On the other hand,I am definitely a friend and unquestionably an admirer of Carol Evans and her work--as is pretty well anyone who ever had the pleasure of encountering either. And I can't do much harm, because Carol Evans really doesn't need anybody's words to attract eyeballs to her splendid labours.

Seems like divine overkill, but Carol Evans is actually as beautiful in person as she is on canvas. She's an abidingly kind and gentle soul who punctuates her conversation with bawdy guffaws. She paints like an angel and laughs like Diamond Tooth Gertie. Ms. Evans is a West Coast girl, born and bred, and her art is pure West Coast, all mist and
sunshine, mountain scarp and tideline. She captures children frolicking in the surf as unerringly as she renders Haida elders with hard centuries etched in their faces. Eagles in flight and otters at play; a frog splayed out on a lily pad like a court jester in camouflage. An impossibly fragile rose; a fish boat doggedly ploughing a shimmering sea.

And oh, the water. Ye Gods, can the woman capture water. The glint and the glare of it; the lambent reflections and refractions of its flickering depths and shallows. Her brushes dance across the canvas, trailing water's near-inexhaustible palette of colours, from flinty, unforgiving obsidian through blues and browns and ochres to the softest, yielding greens. It's fitting that the medium she's chosen is watercolour, for she colours the waters with astonishing clarity and a magical perfection that can make your heart do backflips. But she doesn't think of it as "doing water." She calls it "releasing the light."

I asked Howard White, publisher of this book and a lifetime lover of all things West Coast, what he sees in a Carol Evans painting. "They open your eyes in a way that photographs can't," he says, "and in a way other paintings don't either. Usually, artists 'strip away' when they paint a canvas. Somehow Carol manages to include more rather than less. I'm doing the book because I love her paintings. When someone's work makes the hairs on your neck stand on end, I think she should be published."

A souvenir encapsulating a little bit of the coast's inspirational magic

The Shores We Call Home: The Art of Carol Evans is an inexpensive, softcover artbook featuring over eighty of Carol Evans' sweeping artworks reproduced in full color. These landscapes portray the shores of coastal British Columbia in all its beauty and majesty, from ocean scenes to coastlines, waterfalls, and even a moving portrait of a young girl feeding swans. A joy to page through, The Shores We Call Home is particularly recommended for armchair travelers, or anyone who has visited British Columbia's shorelines and desires a souvenir encapsulating a little bit of the coast's inspirational magic.

Incredible

Carol Evans is an incredible watercolor artist, with her specialty being the shorelines, trees, but mostly the water scenes in the Northwest area of Canada. She captures the transparency of the water, and its ripples and reflections perhaps better than any watercolor painter I have had the privilege to view. This book is a treasure.

Wonderful skilled artist with loads of decent size plates of her paintings--this is the best of her books, so far...

Wonderful book, loaded with many generous size prints of her artwork. Some of her better/best work is in this book--lots and lots of pictures of her work--most important in an art book--accompanied with personal stories of subject areas and her craft narratives. Some of the best artists are not discovered and I believe her time to explode into the Master class is near. I have two other of her books--they didn't have the more experienced quality of work as in this book. It's not a thick book, about a 1/4" thick but you spent a lot of time looking at every print trying to figure out her she painted that and this so the thin book does go a long way. Every artist has an enhanced skill in certain areas--hers is definitely water. I hope she does a video on her painting skills.

Watch out for the typos!!

I question the accuracy of this whole book after looking at the top 300 drugs. For example, they have the following:
Ergocalciferol = Hyzaar
Amitriptyline = catapres
Ketoconazole = Prevacid
Codeine/promethazine = armour thyriod
And many more bad typos like those! I wonder which ones I'm memorizing wrong that I don't realize. I paid so much for this book and I had no clue I was paying for so many typos. So frustrating! The calculations chapter is very helpful. It would be nice if they could send the corrections that need to be made. Most chapters are a good review.
