Excellent Read - Loved It!

This book was well written, with a story so captivating that I literally could not put it down. Emotional and thought provoking, this descriptive and detailed story of a young boy's traumatic childhood will cause you to question your own perception of and committment to love, hate, family, loyalty, endurance and basic survival. The author's artistic writing style allows the reader to create vivid images of the harsh reality he suffered at the hands of witnessing domestic abuse and violence in the home. The triumph of Emmie serves as an inspirational reminder of the the power and potential of the human spirit. The author has done an outstanding job of relaying his personal story of pain and turmoil, into a very powerful literary work. Well done!

The Man Who Cursed The Rain

A thoughtful and compelling Novel, that shook my entire soul, I was shocked, amazed, and inspired by the courage it took for a woman to endure so much pain, and humiliation, while struggling to raise a family, and maintain such dignity, after enduring so much abuse, from a man who bordered on insanity, void of any human emotion. There is an old proverb that says: "What goes around will most certainly come around" They say that COMMA is a "Bitch" well, this book most definitely, is indicative of what happens to a person who not only abused his wife, and family with such unimaginable indignities, but of a woman who was courageous, and astonishing resilient.

Jeremy Kalen's debut novel, "The Man Who Cursed the Rain," probes into the inner recesses of a long ago past in a far distant locale with deep intensity. One cannot help sympathizing for the novel's protagonist, Marcus, nor empathizing for his tragic-heroine of a mother, Emmie-Mae. Kalen's flair for storytelling is manifested in his ability to make an otherwise antagonistic anti-hero, Saint Rose, appear human despite his many vices. This novel forces one to evaluate the complexities of family and community, the choices that we make, and the consequences of those choices. A good read.
